Chapter 6 Response

In chapter 6 Holden gets into a fight with his room mate, I don't think his room mate actually know what the fight was about, but Holden is practically in love with the girl Stradlater went on a date with. Holden thinks he had sex with her, and became very upset. Holden calls him names and such, but Stradlater is a tough jock type, he ends up just knocking out Holden. I don't know these two's past but I think this may be their fist major conflict, I'm guessing this because before in chapter 3-4 Holden seemed to almost like Stradlater.

Chapter 3-5

In chapter 3 we see Holden talk about how he is a good liar because he lied about going to the gym to his teacher. He goes back to his dorm room where his neighbor Ackley is also, they are the only people that aren't at the football game. Ackley is described as the annoying kid who won't leave you alone, he has acne and pops his pimples all over Holden's room and all that sort of stuff, and then his roomate Stradlater comes home from the football game and gets ready for his date, Stradlater is described as your typical jock type. He's stronger that Holden and acts like a big shot, the typical jock like attitude, and in chapter 4 Holden goes into the shower and discusses with Stradlater about his date. His date is a girl that Holden knows and has feelings for. He says several times that he should go say hi to her but ends up not, Stradlater asks Holden to do his homework for him while he goes on this date, Holden doesn't fully answer him. Holden in chapter 5 goes out to the movies with his friend from his fencing team, Mal Brossard, he also invited Ackley, they never end up going to the movies, they ended up grabbing some burgers and playing pinball and ended up going back to the dorms, Ackley annoys Holden for a while longer until Holden finnally says that he has to do Stradlaters homework and kicks him out, instead of writing about some dumb room or house, the thing he's supposed to write about. He writes about his younger brothers baseball mitt. His brother wrote poems in this mitt so when he was on the field and nobody was batting he would have something to do, he describes his brother in such detail, only to later reveal that his brother had died in his past.

ALL THAT DAVID COPPERFIELD KIND OF CRAP

Chapter 1 introduces a school troubled sixteen year old who seems to have lost his purpose in life. His name is Holden Caulfield. He has flunked many of his classes and is being kicked out of his school. He goes to a school football game, but instead of going he stays up on top of a nearby hill. During this time he describes his fellow peers. He describes the people around him as spoiled snobs who are cold hearted. He says the richer they are the more crime that comes. He then runs to his History teachers house which is nearby. In Chapter 2 he has arrived at his history teachers house, when he knocked on the door Mrs. Spencer opened the door. She greeted him with a smile on her face, in my own opinion it was a smirk on her face, she knew about him being kicked out and she was happy about it. She took his coat and sent him upstairs to his history teachers room, where he was sick. He lectured him of which Holden mostly ignored and wandered off.

MUSIC AS LITERATURE

We define literature as "written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit." This PROVES that music is literature. Musicians write their lyrics, these lyrics have an artistic value, they have an emotional value. As i said in class today, no artist just writes a song, songs come from past experiences, and the heart. Even if you write a song about nothing, the song itself becomes a past experience and the song itself means something to you. The only difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony is the meaning to the writer/ musician, and the style of which they choose. I just want to add that music is not just literature, but the writer of music is an author.
