Journal for April 29, 2015

Adults test their kids to make sure their ready for their future, and to make sure they are ready to "take on the world" because they think that we can't handle ourselves as we are young and inexperienced. But I find this very hypocritical because they were once in the same boat as they were once our age. It's the old "you generation of music sucks" things.

My Modernist

I am choosing Ernest Hemmingway because I was one of the few names I recognized and when I was at home thinking about the assignment I thought to myself "I'll do Ernest Hemmingway or something" and I honestly didn't know if that way an actual name on the list and the. I looked again and he WAS on there, so I figure his name and works would be easy to remember.

Why I am A Human Being

There are hundreds of thousands of logical reasons why I am a human. I have all the organs a human should have, I walk, talk, and act like the average human. But the biggest reason why I think I am a human is because I can experience the feelings of human emotions. I'm sure you could give a robot human emotions, and you can make them talk, walk, and act like a human, but you could never make a robot feel what its like to breath the air we live on, and have a  personal true to them, opinion about it. Opinions, Emotions, etc these are things that are beyond my level of explaining, and honestly I don't want to try (because it's very complicated) but it's something every human being has, you can;t take it away. Nobody can, because nobody has the physical or mental power to, robots are programmed, they think act and do what they do because of how their made, humans are similar, they are raised a certain way to be the person they are, but the difference with humans is that we have the power to say no. We might not always do it, but we always have the choice, and that power cannot be taken away until we die.

Over the break I read "Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep", the story is about a bounty hunter that works for the police and live around what seems is all androids. I won't get too deep into it, but at one point in the story he is being accused of being an android by androids. This made me think of the reasons why I am a human, and made me think of what would be going through my head in that position. I don't think, in that situation, I could contain my anger, confusion, and frustration, and like Montag in Fahrenheit 451, I would probably go on some sort of rampage. This book reminded me a lot of Fahrenheit 451 in many way, the biggest being the way the world was out of context with our own.

  Ps.
I know one of the "Blade Runner" movies is based on  "Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep" and I would've read Ready Player One but it was far too long for me to finish in the time I had, plus I want to read that book on my own time and at my own pace so i can enjoy it more since I know it's a great book and there is going to be a good movie on it coming out soon.
